A full circle

After retiring, Norman returned to his beloved Scotland
to pursue his passion for painting.

Love of Scotland was deep in Norman’s bones and it was
inevitable that he would return to his homeland to retire. During his hard-working years he had held dear two dreams, on to design his own house, the other to have time to paint again. With the help of an architect friend, a beautiful house was built in Skye of Curr, with a magnificent view of the Cairngorms.

He and Jess had divorced in 1976 but were apart of only a year, remarrying in 1992. They were teased by friends as having a Burton-Taylor problem for they divorced again in 1999! When together they had collected many paintings and artefacts and Norman had added some exquisite pieces from his world travels. Thus his Highland home became a personal art gallery, full of memories of his remarkable life.

He had added a studio to the house and, as with his jewellery designs, the natural world was the inspiration for his painting. He spent many happy hours producing watercolours in wonderful jewel colours. It was a happy retirement altogether. Rob was in
London, Romy and her lovely husband, William, and their sons, Callum and Finn, were in Lincolnshire.

Norman was over-the-moon about having two amazing grandsons and he made regular visits to his family and they to him. He had holidays in India, went to fiddle concerts in Ireland, played golf and embraced social media so that he could chat to friends all over the world.
