The life and work of Norman Grant

One of Scotlands most influential jewellers, this ‘home-grown’ Scottish silversmith's favoured medium was translucent enamel which he combined in his silver jewellery. Norman's main influence, since childhood, was nature and the natural forms of the coastal landscape where he grew up.

The cultural traditions were also an intrinsic part of Norman’s life and his deep love of his heritage and the Highland landscape is there to be seen.

He also studied and incorporated microscopic plant cell structures, petals, seed heads and seaweed into his jewellery designs. Highly aware of the politics of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, Norman was inspired by ethnic patterns and cultural motifs which recognised the artistic inheritance of other civilisations.

These powerful influences on his body of work meant Norman Grant has remained collectable and sought after world-wide right into the 21st Century.

His family have decided to produce a book to give a little insight into Norman the man and his amazing journey into and through the world of Jewellery design and the legacy he has left behind him.
